Dear East Rochester Elementary Faculty, Staff and Families,

Happy Last 3 Days of School! Thank you for sharing your children with us this school year. The final days of school are always filled with mixed emotions ... happiness for all that we have accomplished together (in a pandemic!), sadness for having to say goodbye to our wonderful 5th graders and friends that are moving on, excitement for what is to come... Whether remote or in-person, your children have brought joy to our hearts and meaning to our daily work lives. Without your partnership, we wouldn't be E.R. Strong and have accomplished so much this school year.

This year, we say goodbye to two valued professionals that are retiring - Lindsey Borden, Instrumental Music Teacher, and Kim Flynn, 4th Grade Teacher Assistant. Their presence will be missed greatly! Mrs. Borden was vital in increasing student interest in instrumental music at the elementary school, which then led to increased participation at the upper grades. Mrs. Flynn provided support to students both in-person and virtually. Her attention to detail was very much valued and appreciated. They will be missed!

As we get closer to summer, I have put some key reminders below.

  • K/UPK Families: it is so important to make sure that your child is registered. We are still waiting on several registration packets. Screening will continue this summer. Families will have a K/UPK orientation while their child is being screened.
  • Summer Learning Challenge: Don't forget that there is a summer learning challenge with participation incentives!  A flyer went home in backpacks. Click here for details on how to participate.
  • Full In-Person Instructional Model for 2021-22: Superintendent Haugh's message from several weeks ago: At this time, the district is planning for a full in-person instructional model during the 2021-22 school year.
  • Report Cards: These will go home on the last day of in-person instruction, which is June 22. The official last day of school is Wednesday, June 23, and teachers will have one last Zoom / Google Meet with their classes for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Teacher assignments and welcome letters will be mailed home in August. Please make sure that we have your most up-to-date contact information so that you get this information in a timely manner. A teacher welcome letter will be mailed with your teacher assignment so that you have teacher contact information in the event that you need to reach out prior to the first day of school.
  • Summer Learning Academy (SLA): Students that are participating in in-person Summer Learning Academy will receive a letter in the mail this week with teacher information and where to report at 8am on Tuesday, July 6 for the first day of in-person SLA. Virtual SLA participants will also receive teacher information along with a schedule and participation link. We look forward to having fun this summer together!

It has been an honor working with your children. Please view the E.R. Elementary Memories video below as a memoire of this school year. Thank you again for all of your support. TOGETHER, WE ARE E.R. STRONG. Enjoy your summer!

With gratitude,
Marisa Capuano Philp
