Valentines for sailors

Students at ER Elementary School spent time during February making valentines to send to members of the U.S. Navy.

The project began as a way to send some love to a Class of 2017 ER alum, Alex Vermette. Alex is currently in the Navy and has four siblings still in school. One brother, Aydan, is in tenth grade at the high school, his other brother, Ashton, is in sixth grade and his sisters, fifth-grader Alannah and kindergartener Autumn, are currently students at the elementary school. Autumn was so proud to have collected and sent the cards to her brother.

Students at all grade levels at the elementary school created Valentine’s Day cards to send, thanking the sailors for their service and reminding them there are people back home who love them and miss them. Cards were brought to a drop-box in the main office of the elementary school when they were completed, so they could be gathered together and sent off. In total, over 50 cards from students and staff, including former coaches, were collected.

The letters were sent to the nearly 400 sailors aboard Alex’s naval ship, where they will put a smile on many brave men and women’s faces.
