Second Step - Social Emotional Learning

East Rochester Elementary Social Emotional Learning Tier 1 Curriculum

What is Second Step?

Second Step is an evidence-based program that instills Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills in students. These skills include:

  • Self-Awareness

  • Self-Management

  • Responsible Decision-Making

  • Relationship Skills

  • Social Awareness

Why Second Step?

Second Step will not only teach students SEL skills they can use now in the classroom, but will also benefit them in their lives outside of school. SEL skill development is not finite. As your child continues through their academic career at East Rochester, through the parallel development of SEL skills, they will acquire the tools they need to be college and career ready.

Second Step Classroom Lessons

SEL Tier 1 learning through the Second Step curriculum is delivered by the general education classroom teacher.  The lesson material is infused daily throughout the school day and integrated in academic instruction.
